Changes in the flexibility of the hybrid telework model?
Last September 19, at the request of STC, a meeting was held between union representatives and the company to discuss the hybrid work model.
By way of summary, the company pointed out that the current telework instruction, which establishes a minimum of two days of work from home, allows them to require staff to come to the office three days per week. This 60/40 hybrid model will be implemented by managers. We have informed the company that STC does not agree with the measure to increase face-to-face work days, where we have stated the following reasons:
- It increases the level of dissatisfaction and stress in the workforce.
- It reduces flexibility, making it difficult to reconcile work and family life.
- It increases commuting, which has a negative impact on the carbon footprint, increases in itinere accidents (the main cause of accidents at Ericsson) and reduces employees’ daily free time. Apart from the increased financial cost this entails.
- It may lead employees to consider looking for opportunities in other companies, as the flexibility of telecommuting is a decisive factor for many.
- Parking usage in the case of TS will increase, and many people will be ineligible to reserve a space.
- There may be complaints of the Individual Teleworking Agreements, which would generate additional problems for the rest of the staff that continues with this type of work.
- It discourages the attraction and retention of talent, something crucial in a technology company like this one.
At STC we are studying possible actions in response to this unilateral move by the company, including the option of resorting to legal action. In addition, we would like to invite you to reflect on what the return to the office under the 60/40 model implies for you.
We will soon be sending you a survey to get your opinion on current issues at Ericsson (teleworking, time registration, layoffs, among others), which will allow us to make decisions aligned with the needs of the workforce. We encourage you to complete the survey so that we can act on these needs and communicate them to the company. The results will be shared with the entire workforce once the data has been compiled
