1º de Mayo 2024 / 1st of May 2024

This Wednesday, 1st of May, is International Workers’ Day.

Working conditions have been changing, and teleworking has made it possible to improve in some aspects but, on the other hand, it has worsened the time we spend at work. A flexibilisation of the working day that should be positive, but which in many cases means that work is at the centre of everything, with the impact that this entails.

We have been suffering from work overloads that make it difficult to comply with the digital disconnection; that prevent us from having the necessary rest times; that make it difficult to achieve a real work-life balance and that also mean we suffer from a lack of free time to the full.

Regardless of the messages that the company may send, the reality is that there is an almost full-time availability on the part of the workforce towards the company, with a very high risk of entering into episodes of stress and mental health problems.

Efforts are not always linked to salary recognition, and in a context of international crisis where the CPI is growing faster than salary increases, there is a loss of purchasing power that is worsening our living conditions.

Our company, our beloved Ericsson, once again reminds us with the recent layoffs and before celebrating the 1st of May, that it doesn’t matter if you make an effort, if you give up part of your personal life, if you work hard at work: You will be fired when you least expect it.

I hope that this 1st of May will serve as an opportunity for all of us who work in this company, including the trade unions, to reflect calmly on where we are heading and what we could do to improve our working environment.

Every day that a person is fired, they are being disrespected, as are their families, and we are allowing them to be disrespected if we do not take action.
