1 de Mayo: Día Internacional del Trabajo / May 1: International Workers’ Day
This May 1st, International Workers’ Day, is not just another date on the calendar. It is a day to remember that labor rights are not concessions, but hard-won gains that we must defend, especially in times like these.
At our company, there are many issues we must stand up for and work together on so that the company negotiates them with union representatives: maintaining flexible remote work, a fairer compensation system, equal rights and benefits for the entire workforce, improvements in training, and so on. All these points must be agreed upon through a collective bargaining agreement of our own, like the one we had years ago at Ericsson, and like the ones that exist in most companies in our sector.
We cannot fail to focus on the redundancy plan this year. At STC, we have participated in the negotiations with a clear objective: that departures be voluntary, reducing the impact, protecting people, and guaranteeing dignified conditions. In addition to ensuring that it is carried out with the utmost guarantees, transparency, and respect for those affected.
We want to point out that the high rate of voluntary participation has been key. It has been an exercise in collective responsibility. While it is true that the signing of the redundancy plan allows the company to carry out mandatory layoffs, our goal is to avoid them through job rotations and the willingness of the parties involved.
For this reason, we are not letting our guard down. At the monitoring committee, we are demanding that:
• Voluntary participation is strictly respected
• Objective, transparent, and verifiable criteria are applied
• Full compliance with all agreed-upon conditions is guaranteed
In a technology company like ours, where value is generated by people, we will not accept cost-cutting measures that come at the expense of those of us who have built this project at Ericsson.
This May 1st is also a reminder that:
• Collective organization is necessary to defend ourselves
• Negotiation is the best tool
• Rights are defended by exercising them
We want to thank you for your support, which is essential to protect us in times of transformation like the present. Today more than ever, we stand for: decent employment, fair decisions, and respect for people.
We encourage you to participate in the various demonstrations planned for this day.
